SERMEL is believed to be the workshop name (jal is an abbreviation for Jalisco). Having seen many papier-mâché figures, including those from Japan, the texture appears ceramic-like at first glance, and the modeling is remarkable, defying the impression of papier-mâché. The meticulous and delicate hand-painted details, with sparkling eyes and long eyelashes, have a simple and warm charm different from those of Japan.
