This is a compact bag for a shamisen. The shamisen in the photo is for illustrative purposes only; the listing is for the bag itself. A jiuta nakazao (intermediate-length neck) shamisen just barely fits, but a Tsugaru shamisen will not. There is some rust and clouding on some of the metal fittings, but it is still usable without any problems.
