Published in 1942, during the height of World War II, this is a very valuable commentary on sumo, the national sport of Japan. It uses many illustrations and photographs to explain techniques in an easy-to-understand manner. Published during the war, it was a product of an era when publications were controlled and distributed through a rationing system. Due to the scarcity of materials at the time, it uses paper that is slightly speckled, known as senkashi, which is not of good quality by today's standards. The cover has tears and other damage, but the main body of the text is in good condition. Considering the 80-plus years since the war, the main body can be considered to be in good condition.
