This is a girl's hitotsu-mi (ceremonial kimono for newborns) with a juban (undershirt). It's primarily red with a kanoko (spotted pattern), michi-naga-tori (a pattern of elongated shapes), and auspicious motifs like seigaiha (wave pattern) and shippo (seven treasures). Hitotsu-mi refers to a kimono for infants aged 0-2 years old. It's easier to understand if you imagine the celebratory kimono that babies typically wear for their Hatsumiyamairi (Shinto shrine visit). A characteristic of the hitotsu-mi is that it's made without a back seam, using standard-width fabric. When dressing a baby, there are no shoulder tucks or hip tucks, and a collar is used instead of an obi (sash).
