However, there were rare instances where, due to compatibility issues with the software specifications of some foreign films, playback was possible, but the Japanese subtitle menu could not be displayed or selected. Although it is a US specification, you can select Japanese display from the language menu as shown in the image. It has been used normally in a 100v voltage environment in Japan.
