The F40 was the last model personally planned and approved by Enzo Ferrari. With a claimed top speed of 324 km/h, it was the fastest production car in the world at the time of its release. The body design was by Pininfarina, and lightweight carbon fiber was used for the doors, hood, and trunk lid. The interior was very spartan, with sliding plastic side windows in the early models and no door handles, requiring a wire to be pulled to open them, making it like a racing car for the road.
