A cup and saucer from VILLEROY & BOCH of Germany. This is from the rare American Sampler series. "Sampler" also has the meaning of embroidery, and indeed, the design is embroidered. It's a warm cup and saucer. The cup is a large, generous size. VILLEROY & BOCH of Germany was founded in 1748 by François Boch in the Lorraine region of France. Later, a factory was established in Luxembourg. With the support of the Habsburg family, it developed as a royal warrant porcelain manufacturer. Later, in 1836, it merged with the Villeroy family, who were rivals in porcelain production, and established its headquarters in Germany, becoming VILLEROY & BOCH. Combining the two strengths, they were among the first to industrialize production, becoming one of the world's three major porcelain companies, alongside Meissen and Royal Copenhagen.
