While interviews with film directors and cameramen are common in various media, opportunities to hear from video editors are rare. This book was conceived from that very observation. With the recent proliferation of video content, including web videos, people in various positions, both professionals and amateurs, are editing videos. While many are editing by trial and error or by instinct, how do professional editors approach the footage and weave it into a video? This book interviews seven prominent film editors working on the front lines. This book does not explain editing software or practical editing techniques. Instead, it introduces the types of people who are professional video editors, their individual personalities, and the standards they use when editing, showcasing each editor's approach to and thoughts on editing. This book is a compilation of a series that ran in the video equipment magazine, Monthly Video SALON, from the September 2017 issue to the October 2018 issue. As original content for the book, it includes a conversation between Hitoshi Ohne, popular as the director of films and TV dramas such as "Moteki" and "Bakuman.", and Yasuyuki Ozeki, who won the Japan Academy Film Prize for Best Editing for "Bakuman."
