What was impressive when I spoke with him at Teiyudo Bookstore was his statement, "A bookstore is a bonfire." Each book contains the author's passion, which warms the reader like a bonfire. People gather around a bonfire because it's warm, but if everyone just comes to warm themselves by the fire, it will eventually go out. But if each person who comes puts in a piece of firewood, the fire can continue to burn, as Mr. Nara taught me."
