I've seen countless planes, but this one is exceptionally refined. I highly recommend comparing it. Because of the time-consuming "tsutsumi-bori" (wrapped) construction, the shavings won't fall out. Also, the back iron is thick and sturdy, and the contrast between the brass fastener, which is not just a simple nail, and the deep, lustrous black of the iron is irresistible. You can't get this with cheap, thin back irons. The plane body also uses good, tight-grained "nagare-masa" (straight-grained) wood. The tiger stripes on the left side are also lovely. The blade is still tightly set, so it's not protruding to the blade mouth. I've cleaned it to remove dirt, but it's an old plane, so it's less prone to warping. Even with new planes, the blade can rust and, in severe cases, become stuck and impossible to remove. The back-iron is also clean. This is a plane with impeccable craftsmanship, and it makes you want to enjoy some sake with it.
