Instead of bar magnets, I've used rod magnets, which are used in single-coil pickups, resulting in a "humbucker that's like two single-coil pickups side-by-side." In humbucker mode, it sounds more like a thick single-coil, and in coil-tapped mode, it has a single-coil tone. Alnico 3 provides a vivid tone with touch nuances. The resistance is high, but it tends to be higher because I've wound more of a thinner coil than commonly used coils.
