This is a lidded object (persimmon red, square lidded object) by Kanjiro Kawai. Lidded objects are rarer than items like teacups, and while lidded objects with iron glaze are sometimes seen, those with persimmon red glaze are quite rare. It can be used as a small container or a business card holder. There are no accompanying items such as a wooden box, and while I believe it to be genuine, it is currently unauthenticated. A similar piece is featured in the Kawakatsu Collection held by the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. The size is also about the same.
