His original name was Shouxin, and his courtesy name was Ziyi. Born into a poor family of medical practitioners in Yuxi, Yunnan Province, he loved music from a young age and could play many traditional instruments. In 1930, he went to Shanghai, and the following year he worked as a violinist in a song and dance troupe. Later, he was involved in music, theater, and film. In 1935, he drowned while traveling to the former Soviet Union via Japan. His representative works include "March of the Volunteers," "Forward Song," "Road Song," "Pioneer," "Dockworker's Song," and "New Woman," among more than 30 songs, expressing the suffering and resistance of the working masses and the determination to resist Japan after the "September 18th Incident." In 1949, "March of the Volunteers" became the national anthem of the People's Republic of China. This stamp consists of one sheet and features a portrait of Nie Er.
