This is a traditional Japanese craft, a red cow (Akabeko) figurine. It's a lucky Akabeko with a golden mallet. Its head sways. It has been displayed for many years, and while I've removed most of the dust, the decorative string is slightly discolored. There is some discoloration in one area.
