There are some areas where the paper has come off. I believe it's a type of Ikkan-bari, where Japanese paper is applied to a bamboo basket and then coated with persimmon tannin. Upon closer inspection, there are characters on the Japanese paper, so it may be repurposed from an account book or something similar. It belonged to my mother, so I don't know the details, but I think she probably bought it at an antique market or something. It's a folk craft, but it has a nice, rustic feel.
