It won the Special Jury Prize at the 4th Tokyo International Film Festival in 1991 and was released in Japanese theaters in 1992 as Yang's first film to be shown in Japan. In the summer of '61, a 14-year-old boy murdered his girlfriend, a case that was the first murder committed by a minor in Taiwan. The film depicts the conflicts between delinquent youths, the dreams of a boy who admires Elvis Presley, and the anxieties of the older generation who yearn to return to the mainland, while highlighting the social and psychological background of Taiwan at the time. Chang Chen, who was a complete amateur at the time, plays the protagonist. There are versions with a running time of 188 minutes and 236 minutes, and the 236-minute version, digitally remastered, premiered at the 29th Tokyo International Film Festival in 2016. The same version was released in theaters in 2017.
