After that, it is used after being thoroughly dried. Although it is a serving basket, the appearance differs depending on the thickness and width of the bamboo strips, and the number of strips used. This serving basket uses [Madake (Japanese timber bamboo) and Susudake (smoked bamboo)]. Susudake (smoked bamboo) is characterized by its unique brown and amber color, which is naturally created by being smoked by the smoke of an irori (sunken hearth) over a long period of 100 to 200 years or more. It has increased insect repellent and anti-mold effects, and is a high-quality bamboo material with high durability. It is not a natural type of bamboo like Mōsōchiku (giant timber bamboo) or Madake. The bottom is made of Susudake using the "Hanasashi Kasane Rokumoku" (flower-stitching, six-eye weave). The thickness of the bamboo strips for the rim weaving is 0.4 mm and the width is 2.8 mm. Two of these bamboo strips are combined to weave the rim, reducing the gaps and increasing the durability. The finish is also extremely careful, with no bamboo splinters at all. The oil remaining in the bamboo will change color over time, turning the whole thing to an amber color (slightly brown to dark amber) from the time of manufacture.
