It prevents your precious pet from directly touching the heater and getting injured, and also prevents accidents like fires caused by chewing on the power cord. You can hang it inside or outside the cage. There's also a hole for the power cord, so the heater fits snugly. What you are purchasing is only the mesh cover shown in images 4-7. Images 1 and 2 are reference images of it attached to my pet cage. Image 3 is a reference image of the heater cord passing through.
