Discovered in a mine in Arizona in 1980, "Gira-lite" was named after Gila County, where it was found. Later, a relatively new mineral found in Paraíba, Brazil, with a color reminiscent of Gira-lite, came to be known as "Paraiba Quartz."
It has been available in the market for several years, but the amount originally discovered was small, making it a rare stone.
