From a young age, Dana was interested in music and vowed to dedicate his life to guitars. In 1974, influenced by a guitar-making guide, he immediately purchased the necessary materials and tools and began making guitars in a room in a university dormitory. The following year, he completed his commemorative first guitar. After that, he continued to make guitars while receiving advice from various luthiers, and through repairing and restoring many old guitars, he deepened his knowledge of how to identify good materials, how to make the wood resonate, which is the essence of guitar making, and other manufacturing techniques. In 1980, he met Eric Schoenberg, famous for his ragtime-style guitar playing, while running a local folk group and playing in various bands. He was asked to make an OM model with a cutaway in a traditional style. In 1985, he completed this 14-fret joint OM cutaway (Schoenberg Soloist), and the following year, he established Schoenberg Guitars with Mr. Schoenberg. About 150 Soloist models, designed and with materials selected by Dana himself, and with each guitar's sound checked, were released to the world with the cooperation of Martin. After that, he served as a design advisor for Gibson's Montana factory acoustic line. Taking advantage of that experience, he established his own workshop, Bourgeois Guitar, in 1985.
