This is a lovely Homongi that depicts a garden of flowers with a fantastic color palette of Yuzen dyeing, using techniques such as insect-eaten effects to enhance realism. Each flower is very fresh and seems to deeply fill the heart. Yuzen dyeing involves drawing an underdrawing on white fabric and tracing the underdrawing with ito-me-nori (a type of resist paste). This paste acts as a barrier to prevent the design and colors from bleeding into adjacent designs and colors. Next, colors are added to the design, and then fuseri-nori (another type of resist paste) is applied over the dyed design to dye the ground color. Finally, the paste is removed. This dyeing method allows for more freedom in drawing designs compared to shibori dyeing or katazome (stencil dyeing), and it also allows for the use of many colors. In other words, it is a dyeing method that can most faithfully express the sensibility of the person dyeing, as if painting a picture.
