It's a bit difficult to tell from the pictures, but this sanshin has beautiful wood grain and finish, and the construction of the neck is particularly excellent. The body has reinforced genuine skin, so the sound is good, and it won't tear with normal use, making maintenance easy. The condition is as good as new, so you won't need to replace the skin for a while. There are no cracks or chips in the neck, and no tears in the skin on either the front or back of the body. I bought it used, so the exact materials are unknown, but it's made of quite hard wood (probably ebony, judging by the wood grain). When I asked a musical instrument store to adjust the karakui (tuning pegs), they also commented that it was a good neck. The neck is said to be the most important part of a sanshin, and as you can see from the itogura (string holder) and saruo (tailpiece), this one is not a cheap product that just paints white wood black; the wood itself has this color, and it will be a treasured instrument for years to come.
