Kokuji-yaki is a pottery born in Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture, and is a traditional craft that has been around for about 200 years since the late Edo period. It uses local clay and unique glazes made from straw ash and iron sand, and is characterized by simple and practical "vessels for daily life." Also, as it is located at the northernmost end of traditional Japanese kilns, it is also called the "northernmost folk kiln."
