Iron Mokko-shaped Shidare Yanagi (Weeping Willow) and Fushiba (Recumbent Horse) Tsuba, unsigned, Higo school, both hitsu-ana (kozuka and kogai holes) filled with shakudo, gold and silver inlay, kakumimi koniku (square rim with slight meat), comes with a paulownia wood box. This is a large and imposing masterpiece of Higo metalwork. The large hitsu-ana openings, often seen in Higo tsuba, are filled with shakudo, giving the piece a sense of depth. The elegant scene of a horse lying down in the grass under a weeping willow is depicted with Higo inlay. This is a fine example of a Higo tsuba. The subject of a horse resting under a willow tree is the same as the Yanagishita Gaba-zu Fuchigashira (Willow Tree and Reclining Horse Fuchi-Kashira) by Tsuchiya Yasuchika of the Nara school (Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu - Special Preservation Sword Fitting). There are minor signs of aging, such as rust, dirt, scratches, and some inlay loss, but it is in very good condition. Please check the images.
