Please refrain from purchasing if you are nervous or looking for a perfect item. << MATERIAL >> Era: Late 1970s Material: Rayon Fujiette Print: Overprint Buttons: Coconut buttons 【DESIGN】 The design was printed in Kyoto in the 1970s and exported to the United States as fabric for shirts by the Japanese trading company Triple Times California. Only the fabric remains from the time, and the manufacturer and brand that produced it as a shirt are still unknown. However, the fabric is of high quality, with intricately carved patterns layered on top of each other, so it is undoubtedly an excellent work by skilled craftsmen. The design is based on a Tibetan Buddhist hanging scroll called a "Thangka." Originally, it was used by monks to explain the doctrines in an easy-to-understand manner during missionary work, and this fabric also features motifs found in Tibetan Buddhist art, such as "Padmasambhava," the founder of Tibetan Esoteric Buddhism, and "Yab-Yum," a symbol of male and female deities. The work's title, "Mandala," means "circle" in Sanskrit, and represents a state of completeness and fulfillment. It is also a diagram that shows the state of enlightenment, and it has been passed down in Japanese culture as a "Mandala" where gods and Buddhas gather.
