This item was made by connecting and backing old indigo-dyed katazome (stencil-dyed) fabric, striped cotton (indigo-dyed, grass-dyed, etc.), and safflower cotton, with bleached cotton sandwiched in between. The cover in the photo was sewn together with a falling stitch, using light green sashiko thread, and the mat was sewn together with the same sashiko (white thread) as the surface.
