Animalitos, affectionately known as "animalitos," are folk crafts made in the small village of Chamula in the mountainous region of southern Mexico, Chiapas. Chamula is located in a high-altitude mountainous area of Mexico, so it is a region with low temperatures. The villagers raise their own sheep and weave clothes and rugs from the sheep's wool using a technique called BackStrapLoom. The animalitos originated as children's toys made from the leftover fabric. The women of Chamula are called Chamulitas. The animalitos are made by these women, ranging in age from 10 to 60 years old, and each one is handmade. Therefore, no two are exactly alike. They all have adorable, different expressions. Most Chamulitas marry in their early teens and have children at 14 or 15 years old. They make animalitos to help their children and support their household, selling them in front of their homes and at markets. We are offering these rare animalitos exclusively at Grandpool.
