Daitoku-in, a sub-temple of Myoshin-ji Temple, the head temple of the Rinzai sect. Founded in the 8th year of Keicho (1603) by Mitsutada Ishikawa, a chief retainer of the Owari clan, to serve as the family temple for his father, with Enan Genjo as the founding priest. Because of this, Daitoku-in became the family temple of the Owari Ishikawa family. Among the various halls and temple buildings, the guest hall and study were rebuilt in the 11th year of Kyoho (1726). The kitchen was renovated in the late Edo period. The fusuma paintings in the guest hall (currently used as the main hall) were created by Zeshin Shibata, who was active from the late Edo period to the early Meiji period. The Sanmon gate, the main hall, and the kitchen are designated cultural properties of Kyoto Prefecture. Usually a non-public temple, viewing is only available during special spring and autumn viewings, or by special reservation. Goshuin (temple seals) are only available during public viewing periods.
