This is a very old French antique negligee from around 1900. It's made of hand-woven hemp called "chanvre," which is the most durable and heavy-duty type of linen, with a dense weave. Since sewing machines were not yet widespread at the time, it is entirely hand-sewn, stitch by stitch. It has a lovely, full, flared line, and I think it would be nice to wear it as a dress. It's over 100 years old. There are very subtle cross-stitch initials "J" and "L" embroidered on the chest. There was no string to gather the gathers at the chest, so I bought a very matching thin linen ribbon at a craft store and threaded it through. The gathers can be adjusted to your liking. There is a string around the neck, and when you tighten it to gather the gathers, it will fit your body comfortably.
