A woman named Hana Kaifu from Ataka Village, Myoto District, Awa Province, hung her kimono to dry, and it got wet in a sudden rain and dried in the sun, causing it to shrink. The texture has a unique texture, and thanks to these irregularities, it doesn't stick to the skin and feels smooth and comfortable. It is also breathable and has excellent moisture absorption due to the cotton material. In July 1978, Awa Shijira-ori using natural Awa indigo dye was designated as a traditional craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry as "Awa Shoai Shijira-ori", and in 2010, it was also selected as a Tokushima Citizen's Heritage.
