A popular souvenir item in Okinawa, Hotaru glass, with its deep blue color reminiscent of the Okinawan sea, is a glass bead with a hole, made using a shaping technique called burner work, similar to tonbo-dama (lampwork glass beads). Artisans melt colored glass one by one onto an iron core, wrap it with silver foil, and use a special technique to express beautiful colors.
