This guitar, purchased new approximately 47-48 years ago, has been played for many years and holds a special place in my heart. However, it hasn't been played much in recent years, and rather than letting it sit unused, I'm offering it for sale so someone else can enjoy it. This guitar is recommended for players, not collectors. The serial number starts with 77, indicating it was made in 1977. It's a Martin D-45 type, and at the time, it was a high-grade model within the ThreeS lineup, with good materials and construction. Having been played for a long time, the sound is outstanding, with excellent projection. It was good enough that I didn't even need a PA system in smaller venues. While it's a vintage guitar, it doesn't have the typical "mellowed" sound; instead, it has a balanced resonance from low to high frequencies. According to catalogs and online information, the top is solid spruce, the sides and back are rosewood, the neck is mahogany, and the fingerboard and bridge are ebony. The side and back bindings, the soundhole rosette, and the position markers are listed as abalone cell, but it appears that genuine, beautiful abalone is actually used. It has a vertical logo on the headstock. The gold tuning pegs with the ThreeS logo appear to be made by Gotoh (though there may be variations depending on the individual guitar). The only parts that have been replaced are the bridge saddle and strap pin due to wear. The frets are original and show some wear, particularly on the lower frets. There is some slight separation on the neck binding below the nut. The tuning pegs are somewhat worn, and the torque on the 1st string is loose. Tuning is relatively stable, but those concerned may want to consider a repair. The string height, as measured by an amateur, is 3.0mm at the 12th fret on the 6th string and 2.5mm on the 1st string. This was perfect for my strumming-focused, powerful playing style, but it might be high for those who play solo. The truss rod still seems to have room to turn, and the saddle still has some projection, so the string height can likely be lowered. There is a crack of a few millimeters near the neck joint of the soundhole, which is barely noticeable unless you touch it. There is no major damage like body cracks, but there are quite a few scratches, dents, and dirt from aging, so please understand and accept this as a used vintage guitar before purchasing. It will be shipped in a sturdy soft case with thick padding, but it's a bit worn (tears, broken shoulder straps). The case is usable, but please consider it for transportation purposes only.
