Around the 12th to 13th centuries, Denmark was famous for producing good horses. Also, in the 1500s, Denmark gained a high reputation for its grand and luxuriously decorated carriages. This fame led to the establishment of the Royal Stables in 1690. This year's plate features the famous gold-leaf carriage. The carriage of Christian VIII was made in 1840 by the carriage maker Henry Fife. This carriage was used when Crown Prince Frederick VIII and Princess Louise entered Copenhagen in 1960.
