Leica Summar 5cm F2 Leica L39 screw mount. Manufactured in 1934. This is the nickel-plated, commonly known as "Nickel Summar," produced around the time the Summar, famous for its unique characteristics, adopted a collapsible lens barrel. Unlike the usual chrome, its slightly golden color is beautiful, especially when paired with a black paint camera. It's a non-coated model without lens coating, so flare is significant, and it reacts sensitively to light sources. Please enjoy the essence of this characterful lens. I have prepared sample photos taken with this lens. They exhibit the softness and misty rendering typical of the Summar. The first lily in the sample photos compares the results at the maximum aperture and around F5.6; the maximum aperture has a very shallow depth of field, yet it depicts even the pollen. When shooting in direct light and stopped down to some extent, it renders well. On the other hand, it tends to blur light sources and produces strong flare with extremely bright reflections or the sun. However, it doesn't mean you can't take pictures, including distant scenery; it handles them adequately. This type of lens transforms in monochrome, where the blurred rendering leads to rich contrast and sharp depiction, making it interesting. Looking at the condition, the exterior has scratches on the moving parts. The optics are interesting, with a small, circular haze in the center of the front element, which I believe contributes to this softness. There is also a slight overall haze. Scratches, a common issue with the front element, are not a concern. Nickel Summars are known to be very expensive, but this one is offered at a reasonable price due to some damage. However, its softness is attractive. Highly recommended for those who want to own a rare model.
