This is a Ryusui Meishaku Shakuhachi, a two-shaku (approximately 61 cm) long flute. It is made from bamboo with a very attractive appearance, with no noticeable damage. There is some peeling of the lacquer inside the joint of the lower tube, but this does not affect the playing (see photo 9). Both the high and low registers have a rich, mellow, and deep tone, making it suitable for those who enjoy playing in ensembles of three instruments, solo performances of classical pieces, or Komuso music. The shallowly crafted mouthpiece makes it easy to control the "meri" and "kari" techniques (pitch bending). Playing a shakuhachi of this length quietly by oneself is very calming. This is not suitable for those who want a loud, modern sound. Price is firm.
