This piece, from the mid-1950s, depicts a gold dragon in a composition with depth, appearing to come towards the viewer. The dragon's mane and scales are meticulously depicted using pale gold embroidery thread, and the contrast is emphasized by using vibrant colored threads for the dragon's horns and the surrounding thunderclouds. The dragon appears to float on the velveteen fabric. The reversible side features a grand design with an eagle and a dragon glaring at each other, with a Japan map in between. The chest embroidery features a dragon and a tiger, with the tiger depicted facing backward, which is unusual. Combining the back and chest, this jacket boasts luxurious embroidery featuring the three major sukajan motifs: eagle, tiger, and dragon, as well as a Japan map. The text "1949 YOKOHAMA 1950" at the bottom indicates that this piece was a custom order made by an American soldier stationed in Yokohama from 1949 to 1950, and later customized in the mid-1950s. Furthermore, the body's specifications are noteworthy. Normally, Tailor Toyo's velveteen sukajan jackets have padding and quilting stitches on the reversible side, but this piece does not include padding or quilting stitches, allowing it to be worn for a longer season by adjusting the inner layers.
