However, he was also known for his bravery, which was also said to be the best since the school's opening. With the outbreak of the Civil War, his graduation was moved up, and he joined the Union Army without even having time to say goodbye to his lover, Libbie (Olivia de Havilland). He caught the eye of General Scott and was assigned to the 2nd Cavalry, where he achieved great merit and was promoted to Major General, also helping with the confusion of military documents. Custer, who returned in triumph, happily married Libbie, but life as a veteran after the war was not very happy. Through the efforts of his wife, Custer was reinstated and appointed commander of the 7th Cavalry at Fort Lincoln in Dakota. However, a man named Ned (Arthur Kennedy) heard that there was gold in the area and tried to enter the Indian territory. Custer's persuasion was in vain, and the entire Indian population finally rose up. The outnumbered 7th Cavalry, led by Custer, was annihilated before reinforcements arrived, but thanks to Custer's will, Ned's misdeeds were exposed to the authorities, and the treaty between Custer and the Indians was not revoked and was upheld.
