This is a used GRINNING DOG GREY PB pickup. It's a custom model using vintage Western Electric cable (20ga), resulting in a more hi-fi sound with an expanded range and improved clarity. As a P-Bass pickup, it's exceptionally vintage-sounding while also being easy to handle – a truly excellent pickup. GRINNING DOG is a highly trusted manufacturer, so much so that Seiji Kameda of Tokyo Jihen uses their pickups in both his main '66 Jazz Bass and his '62 Precision Bass. After purchasing it new, I had it installed in a sub-bass for about six months, but I rarely used it. I removed the pickup and stored it when I sold the bass. It was fully functional when removed. Both installation and removal were handled by a repairman specializing in major musical instrument stores.
