His father was a stone sculptor, and his mother was a flower arrangement artist. After graduating from Nihon University College of Art, he became devoted to the ceramic spirit of Arakawa Toyozo, a Living National Treasure, and began research on Oni Shino. He studied painting, photography, and color theory under Shinsei Akatsuki, Shigeo Kanamaru, and Ryuzaburo Taguchi, while also becoming a follower of Soto Zen Buddhism. He presented Oni Shino works from the Tensho kiln, which scientifically investigated the Momoyama era's old kilns.
