This is an Arab tambourine, typically called a "req," used in Middle Eastern music. This is a one-of-a-kind instrument, custom-made by ordering the wood and jingles directly from an Egyptian craftsman. The wood used is berry wood. While lemon wood is often used, berry wood is harder and suitable for high-pitched tuning. Therefore, lemon wood's maximum high-pitch tuning is up to F (Fa), but berry wood allows tuning up to G (So). It has a crisp, clear sound. The jingles are 0.7mm thick, 0.1mm thinner than standard. As a result, it has a more subdued tone than the powerful Egyptian sound, making it suitable for playing in other genres. Includes a thick soft case and tuning key. As it is used, there is some warping of the wood and tarnishing of the jingles, but there are no issues with its use. The tarnishing of the jingles is due to aging; they oxidize when exposed to air, creating the tarnish. Therefore, it has a more subdued, aged sound than a new one.
