I purchased this guitar in the late 80s from a major guitar shop, where it was presented as a 1963 model. While most '63 models have rosewood fretboards, this one has a maple fretboard. It's a one-piece neck, not a slab-board. It's possible they used a neck from the 50s that was in stock at the factory. The serial number is L72675. The headstock logo is the spaghetti type with patent numbers, just like the '63 Telecaster used by Keisuke Kuwata. When I bought it, it had already been refinished, but I didn't like the color, so I had a repair shop strip the paint and apply a thin coat of varnish, resulting in its current natural finish. The only work I've done since purchasing it is this refinishing; everything else is as it was when I bought it. I was asked a while ago if the body was original, but since I bought it from the shop with the "63 model" description, I haven't replaced the body. The sanding during the paint removal may have slightly thinned the body. The sound has been confirmed. The frets have about 50-60% life remaining. There are no significant warps in the neck. I haven't confirmed whether the truss rod turns. The string height at the 12th fret is about 2.5mm. The tuners have been replaced with Schaller tuners. It currently has a black pickguard, but I will also include the original pickguard that came with it. Interestingly, the back of this pickguard has a pearloid pattern. I've read in literature that this type of pickguard was used on models from '68 to '71. It's possible it was replaced with one from that period. I haven't made any changes to the electronics, such as the pickups, since I bought it. Please refer to the photos for your assessment. The cover of the front pickup has been removed. The bridge has been replaced with a later 6-saddle type with the Fender logo. The selector switch knob is loose, so I'm storing it separately, but it will be included. A vintage hard case is included, but it's unknown if it's from 1963. The strap in the photos is not included. As this is a high-value item, please ask any questions you may have beforehand.
