I used to wear this for weddings and other events in the fall and winter. I haven't worn it more than five times because the occasions to wear it are limited. The fur around the neck attaches with buttons at the collar, and can be left hanging, tied, or removed completely. There is no noticeable damage, but since I bought it over 10 years ago, the fur sheds easily. Please consider this when purchasing.
