"Thelonica" by Tommy Flanagan (p) "Thelonica" is "Thelonica" in English. It's a combination of Thelonious Monk's name and that of his patron, Baroness Nica de Koenigswarter. When you look at the jacket art normally, it depicts Monk's face, but when you turn it upside down, Baroness Nica's face appears. Flanagan dedicated this album to them, showing his respect for both. It's a bit surprising that Flanagan, known for his elegant piano playing, mainly performs Monk's songs. However, as you listen, you can feel his deep affection for Monk.
