The Omi-Hachiman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Shiga Prefecture, headed by President Yasuhito Oga of Oga Kame) recently began selling the "Business Iroha Karuta," featuring illustrations and calligraphy by Kaeru Kikawa, a "jazz manga artist" from Omi-Hachiman who draws manga to jazz music. The "Business Iroha Karuta" features the important precepts, rules, and principles of business passed down by Omi merchants and other predecessors, along with illustrations drawn in Kaeru Kikawa's unique style. It was originally published in 2001 and went out of print, but due to many requests for a reprint, funds were raised through crowdfunding, exceeding the target of 1 million yen, and the reprint was realized. For frog lovers Also for life lessons Explanation ⚫︎The karuta was created by gathering 46 cards based on the important things and traditions of business, such as the precepts, rules, and principles passed down by Omi merchants and other predecessors, through public solicitation and applications from students at Hachiman Commercial High School, as well as quotations from "Semba Karuta" and "Specialty Store Iroha Karuta," and adding illustrations and calligraphy by Kaeru Kikawa. The project was planned and published by the Small Culture Creation Association, with the first edition of 1,000 copies published on October 30, 2001. In 2023, a reprint was sold for ¥5,000 as part of the Jazz Manga Artist Kaeru Kikawa's 100th Anniversary Commemoration!! "Business Iroha Karuta" Reprint Project. ⚫︎Omi-Hachiman City is located almost in the center of Shiga Prefecture and is the birthplace of Omi merchants (Hachiman merchants) who have valued the spirit of "Sanpo Yoshi" (good for the seller, good for the buyer, and good for society). The "Business Iroha Karuta," based on the precepts, rules, and principles of merchants, including Omi merchants, was planned and published by the Small Culture Creation Association in 2001.
