He created a unique world called "Shimousa Toys" with clay dolls molded by hand and fired in the open, and papier-mâché dolls made by pasting Japanese paper together. He created over 1,500 different works before his death in November 2004. The simple taste and warmth of his works gained great popularity, and he received the 1st Nouvelle Culture Award in 1988.
