Offered for sale as part of a collection clear-out. This is a Tengu-shaped Kamado-gami (Kitchen God). Purchased from INUGAMI, a shop specializing in cursed objects and antiques. Kamado-gami are a nationwide belief, where masks of demons or Tengu are hung above the kitchen stove to ward off evil spirits and prevent fires. While demon and sumo wrestler-shaped Kamado-gami are commonly seen, Tengu-shaped ones are quite rare. In terms of age, it is definitely from the Edo period. Probably from the late Edo period. As it is an old item, there are corresponding scratches and stains overall. Please examine the photos carefully and purchase with the understanding that no claims or returns are accepted.
