This is a clay doll purchased at an antique market. It has a lovely standing pose. Although it's small, you can clearly see the expression on its face. The origin of Ichimatsu dolls is that they were prepared as substitutes in an era when it was difficult to raise children safely. They are cherished as amulets for girls during the Doll Festival (Hina Matsuri). They are also used as a substitute for Hina dolls. Originally, it is said that they originated from dolls that resembled Sanogawa Ichimatsu, a Kabuki actor who was active in the Edo period. The size is also small, so I think it would be good for modern celebrations. There are some areas where the pigment has worn off, but there are no major scratches.
