They are sewn in, so they may be difficult to remove. The front closure is snap buttons, not regular buttons. There are two pockets, one on each side. It's a tweed fabric with brown threads mixed in. I haven't worn it much, but it is a used item. Therefore, if you are particular about details or are very sensitive, you may want to refrain from purchasing. Thank you.
