The wire is believed to have been made around the 1950s, and silk is wrapped inside the insulation. As a characteristic of silk, it is said to improve insulation performance due to the air contained within the silk. WE wires were used for internal wiring in telephone exchanges and communication equipment, and in audio applications, they are characterized by a rich, mellow mid-range and a sound with a sepia-toned luster. They excel in the expression of vocal songs, jazz, and string instruments. Despite having a vintage feel that cannot be achieved with Hifi-type wires such as silver-plated copper wire or fluorine-based insulation, the resolution does not become low or blurry, possibly due to the effect of the silk, making it a recommended choice for those new to vintage wires. NASSAU vintage solder, which is compatible with WE and used for similar purposes, is used for soldering.
