Shinshu Tsumugi, plant-dyed, hand-woven, is a bolt of fabric. Shinshu Tsumugi uses raw silk with neps to create a dignified yet warm appearance. Unfortunately, it's difficult to see in the photos, but this piece has a kasuri pattern of greenish-blue with a hint of black, forming a checkered pattern with the warp and weft threads. The color is darker than it appears in the photos. The threads have firmness and luster, which makes the color appear lighter due to the reflection in the photos. Although it's a warm Tsumugi, the fabric has good firmness, so it will feel crisp and neat when made into a garment. My family used to run a kimono business. We selected bolts of white fabric, had customers choose from dye samples called "books," took measurements for tailoring after dyeing, and provided a total service including obi selection and accessories. Now, the tailors we used to work with are mostly gone, so I have only bolts of fabric left. However, I still have these woven fabrics and white fabrics, and especially the high-quality ones are still in excellent condition even after time has passed, almost like new.
